The Federal Government has released details of the minimum employment conditions that will take effect as from the 2010 and which will affect the majority of employees.
The paper, released by Employment and Workplace Relations Minister Julia Gillard, covers the hours of work, flexible working arrangements, increased parental leave, annual leave and compassionate and carers leave, public holidays, annual leave, redundancy and termination.
The standards have been mostly flagged and will comprise a set of minimum conditions in awards. One surprise was Labor’s other new family friendly employment standard that allows staff who have babies the right to request an additional 12 months unpaid leave, or for their partner to request a separate 12 month period of leave.
