Striving for Business Excellence? A business coach can help.

REPRINTED FROM FOCUS MAGAZINE

The team at MJ Accountants knows a thing or two about business excellence. This was recognised in September when they were awarded the NSW Business Chamber Regional Award for Excellence in Small Business in Port Macquarie, and again in October when the Chamber of Commerce handed them the Sunnys Professional Services gong.

Melanie Zander, founder of MJ Accountants, acknowledges that excellence doesn’t come easily. “There is so much to learn, and so many fires to fight that it can be hard to see the big picture,” she says. “And sometimes it can be pretty lonely.”

MJ Accountants launched their business coaching services this year to make it easier for small business owners to strive for excellence. “We want to share what we have learned in developing our own business to help other businesses grow and prosper,” says Mel.

Business coaching is not like a business course; there is no set curriculum. Every business-coaching program is tailored specifically to the client’s needs.

“The first session is a free in-depth interview,” says Mel. “We look at business performance and talk about areas that need improvement. After that we create a personalized coaching plan. There’s no obligation at that point, but we usually find that people are excited and want to move forward.”

A coach should not be confused with a consultant. “We aren’t there to tell you how to run your business,” says Mel. “We figure you probably know how to do that better than we do.” Instead, coaches provide experience, strategic know-how and access to resources to help you make your own decisions.

“Whether you want to drive change, make more money or spend more time with your family we’re there to help you to carve a path toward your goals.”

Business coaching has already reaped rewards for four of MJ’s clients. GeraGera Coffee, fromZION, Champ Cleaning and Butchers Bullevard were all named as finalists at this years Sunnys Awards. Jasmin Adams of fromZION took out the award as Young Entrepreneur of the Year and Krystie Boyes of Champ Cleaning got the gong for Training.

“It is so rewarding to see our clients being recognised,” says Mel. “Each of these businesses has come ahead leaps and bounds this year and we are proud to have been a part of their success.”
