The ATO released a warning following many reports of a new email scam where personal details were sent overseas for identity theft and credit card fraud. The bogus email states that ‘after a recalculation of your fiscal activity, we have determined you are entitled to receive a tax refund of AU$xxx’. Recipients are asked to fill in the fake ATO form and once they press print their information is sent overseas. The ATO stresses that genuine tax assessments are only sent by post not email.
