Fuel Tax Going Up

Finance Minister Mathias Cormann has finalized legislation to reinstate the indexation of the fuel excise tax.

From 10 November the fuel tax will rise from 38.143 cents per litre to 38.6 cents per litre.  Indexation of fuel duty will return to biannual CPI indexation from 1 February 2015.

Farmers and miners will get a rebate on the excise they pay for farm vehicles and mining trucks that do not use public roads.  This concession is to recognise the fact that the tax is intended to raise funds for roads.
